Jim Norman was born into the roofing business in Montreal, Que. In 1928, his great grandfather, Rowland Norman (roofing) and Joseph Collie (flooring) started Norman & Collie Inc. Jim is the fourth generation of “Normans” to work with the family-owned business. His brother-in-law, Trevor Stevens, presently runs the operations at Norman & Collie, while Jim decided to branch out into Ontario. In 1998, he purchased Palmer Roofing & Insulation Ltd. in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. Palmer Roofing has been serving Southwestern Ontario for 32 years, and has been an OIRCA member since 1987. Very interested in what the Association is trying to accomplish for the industry in Ontario, Jim decided to get involved. During his tenure as president, his main goal is to establish better communication between the Association and all of its valued members. He would also like to see the Roofer’s Training School commence operations. The industry needs “new blood” so it can keep growing into the future and everyone needs to band together in order to make it work.
