CRCA Technical Bulletins
As the Canadian Roofing Contractors Association (CRCA) celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2009 (see Inside the OIRCA elsewhere in this issue of the News), many readers may not be aware of the fact that our national roofing association regularly publishes Technical Bulletins. Of course if you are regular reader of this publication you will know that we often re-print current bulletins as they are released.
For CRCA this practice began back in April of 1969. Released under the title “good roofing”, the first 9 issues were unnumbered. Beginning in January of 1970, CRCA started numbering them. To date 61 volumes have been distributed. In addition to their Technical Bulletins, CRCA began writing Advisory Bulletins back in February of 1997.
Much like CRCA’s time honoured Specification Manual, these bulletins have become the journals of good sound roofing practice in this country. Copies of the bulletins are available for download on CRCA’s website, www.roofingcanada.com .
Should you decide to read these back issues it is interesting to acknowledge, that in spite of how much our world has changed, most of the knowledge contained in these bulletins is still current and relevant. A case in point is unnumbered bulletin dated July 1969 titled Damage to Roofing Systems by Other Trades, The Consequences and the Cure and on the same subject, bulletin number 17, dated January 1973 and titled, Damage to Completed Roofs – Precautions Roofers Should Take…both of which we have re-printed here.
