BILCO’S FIRE VENTS PROVIDE PROTECTION, OPTIONS FOR BUILDING OWNERS

Fire can tear through a building in a matter of minutes, destroying the livelihood of building owners and threatening the lives of workers inside. The protection of assets, but more important life safety, should never be compromised regardless of building type or size. Bilco offers a complete line of automatic fire vents with a variety of options to defend against the threat of fire in virtually any application.

Bilco automatic fire vents are designed to maximize fire containment and life safety, and minimize damage and material loss, bringing the fire under control by removing smoke, heat and gases from a burning building. Ideally-suited for large expanses or unobstructed space, fire vents are successfully used in factories, warehouses, retail stores, convention centres and other structures where the protection of life and property is critical. These products offer many advantages in a fire emergency including:

  • Increased evacuation time and decreased risk of smoke inhalation and damage.
  • Enhanced visibility to allow fire-fighters to quickly locate fire.
  • Protection against secondary ignitions and lateral fire spread.
  • Exhausting of noxious and potentially explosive fumes.
  • Structural protection from damaging heat.
  • Reduced damage to buildings.

Bilco fire vents are available in single-leaf models (Type SV) for smaller, more confined areas such as elevator shafts or stairwells, and double-leaf models (Type DSH) for larger venting requirements. Fire vents can be supplied with polycarbonate covers (Type Lumivent) to add daylight into a building or with an acoustical sound rating (Type ACDSH) to guard against outside noise intrusion in applications such as auditoriums and casinos.

All Bilco automatic fire vents are equipped with Thermolatch® II positive hold/release mechanism to ensure that they open automatically upon the melting of a UL-listed 165 degree Fahrenheit (74 degree Celsius) fusible link. The latching mechanism is designed so that it can be easily reset from the roof level upon activation. In addition, fire vents feature insulated covers and curbs, and full cover gasketing to ensure weather tight and energy efficient performance.

Bilco fire vents can be supplied with a number of options to meet specific building and fire protection requirements. Curb options include built-in louvers for continuous ventilation in elevator shafts as well as base flange modifications for installation on metal roofing systems. Vents can be modified to open upon receiving a signal from a fire alarm control panel or smoke detector. They can be supplied to operate remotely via a motorized or manual winch option, which can be useful for daily ventilation in manufacturing environments. To prevent unauthorized building entry, Bilco offers security options such as security grills, indicator switches and lockable enclosures for the exterior pull release. In addition, Bilco’s engineering department can custom design products for unique applications.
