FOLLANSBEE OFFERS NEW AIA CONTINUING EDUCATION PRESENTATION – TERNE METAL ROOFING FROM ITS ORIGINS TO TODAY

Follansbee Steel, a leader in metal roofing products and technology, has created a new American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Systems (CES) multimedia presentation entitled – Terne Metal Roofing – From its Origins to Today.

The presentation is designed to inform architects on the history, metallurgy, uses and advancements of terne metal in architecture.

“Today, terne alloy no longer contains lead, thanks to science and engineering, lead has been replaced forever with a new chemistry and a better product,” said Edward Thomas, Follansbee vice president and general manager. “This program examines three modern variations on the original terne roof including painted terne, pre-painted terne, and terne-coated stainless – each providing excellent aesthetics.”

Architects receive one AIA continuing education credit for participating in this hour-long program. The presentation explores advancements made in terne roofing from the later half of the last century to the present, and looks at the form and colour options that modern terne provides architectural designers. It also discusses the metallurgy of terne – the science behind the extraordinary corrosion-resistance of the metal, and common installation methods.
