Victaulic
Piping. Systems. Solutions.
Victaulic, the world leader in mechanical pipe joining systems, was founded in New York City in 1925 to market a radical new concept in the piping industry — a mechanical bolted coupling that would engage into grooves and use a gasket seal.
The concept of joining pipe with bolted mechanical couplings originated during World War I for rapid deployment of fuel and water to Allied forces. The company that worked closely with the War Department of England to develop this new method of joining pipe was named Victory Pipe Joint Company after the coupling it had engineered — known as the "victory joint" from early military uses. Later, combining the words "Victory" and "Hydraulics" the name was shortened to Victaulic, and the company began to shift its focus to the commercial piping industry and market its new innovative method of joining pipe.
In 1952, Victaulic released the first approved coupling for fire protection services which has evolved into a complete offering of sprinklers, couplings, fittings, valves, accessories and tools to meet the needs of any fire protection application.}
With a History of vver 80 years later, Victaulic continues to find faster, easier and more reliable ways to mechanically join pipe. Through leadership and innovation, Victaulic has grown to include offices, foundries and distribution centers all over the globe, employing more than 3,600 people worldwide. Headquartered in the US with offices in Canada, United Kingdom, China and Belgium, Victaulic works closely with facility owners, engineers and contractors, in the installation of systems that compress schedules, reduce risk, improve productivity and facilitate system maintenance and expansion.
Victaulic has been in Canada since 1932 with more than 450 employees serving customers from our Head Office in Richmond Hill, Ontario and branch locations with operating warehouse facilities in Sudbury, Montreal, Edmonton, and Vancouver.
Our solutions are truly global
Victaulic piping system solutions are found in some of the world’s most stunning and challenging engineering projects – buildings that arguably “push the design and construction envelope”. The Burj Al Arab in Dubai, considered the world's most luxurious hotel, utilized Victaulic couplings to make the piping within the world-renowned curved structure functional and dependable. The CN Tower in Toronto, turned to Victaulic to compensate for a 4-1/2 foot (1.37 m) sway movement of the nearly 100 sections of pipe in the tower in any direction. Victaulic is currently providing the piping solutions for the XXIX Olympiad National Stadium in Beijing, helping this venue to be completed in record time.
With these high-profile projects around the world, our global presence as a company ensures worldwide customers are served with speed and efficiency. Manufacturing facilities in the US, Poland, China, and Canada combined with a worldwide distribution and delivery system means Victaulic products are accessible from virtually any location.
A Timeline Of Innovation
The result of continuous research and development, today’s Victaulic system has evolved since it was first introduced in 1925. But the basic concept hasn’t changed.
“At Victaulic, our objective is to consistently deliver innovative products and services to help both designers and installers find solutions for today’s piping challenges” notes Brian Pinnock, Victaulic Divisional Manager and MCAT Associate. Managing schedules and meeting deadlines has always been a priority, but today schedules are even tighter and deadlines approach even faster.
Victaulic understands that staying ahead of schedule means using every resource available to remain competitive. Most recently Victaulic introduced a significant technology change with the new QuickVic® coupling that has no loose components and can be installed without gasket or bolt removal to provide both reliability and ease of assembly. Over the years, Victaulic has pioneered a host of innovative pipe joining technologies that are now considered industry standards:
1920’s
- Introduced grooved-end pipe joining
1930’s
- Developed grooved fittings
1950’s
- Coupling for fire protection services
- Roll grooving introduced to the industry
1960’s

- PermaLynx™ “push-to-connect” system for ½”/15mm – 1½”/40mm copper.
Complete Product Offerings
Victaulic offers complete, start-to-finish solutions that anticipate a project’s every need including rigid and flexible couplings, valves, accessories, fittings and adapters, gaskets, tools and accessories. This includes IPS Grooved End products, the Pressfit system for stainless steel, and a complete grooved system for copper including the PermaLynx Push-to-Connect system for small diameter connections. For large diameter applications, Victaulic Depend-O-Lok™ couplings and the Advance Groove System are available for joining pipe ranging from 14-inches to 144-inches in diameter.
Victaulic piping system components are tested and accepted for a variety of services throughout the world by the primary code and approval bodies. Solutions span many markets and are found around the world in thousands of applications – from commercial comfort piping systems; industrial process and utility piping; residential and commercial fire protection systems; oil and offshore drilling platforms; coal and mineral mining operations; and water and wastewater plants and facilities.
Unique Solutions
Besides offering a complete line of couplings, fittings, valves and accessories, Victaulic is actively involved in the areas of sustainable design and seismic solutions.
Green Building
Victaulic is a member of the Canadian and U.S. Green Building Councils and provides architects and engineers involved in environmental design with multiple sustainable green building design solutions for piping systems. This includes contributing towards increased building efficiency, system maintainability, elimination of hazardous weld pollutant emissions, minimization of the potential for contamination under seismic stresses, and reduction of noise and vibration transmitted through piping.
Seismic Stability
Worldwide, Victaulic has provided proven solutions for customers in earthquake-prone areas that accommodate seismic forces and withstand forces and deflections beyond normal static conditions. Most recently, Victaulic couplings, fittings and seismic joint assemblies were tested at a nationally recognized NEES (Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulations) facility to prove their superior performance and reliability when exposed to extreme seismic conditions. More information and video footage of this testing is available online at www.victaulic.com/seismic .
Quality And Dependability
As a worldwide manufacturer, Victaulic assures adherence to the highest quality standards in all its locations through continuous metallurgical, dimensional and structural quality checks during the manufacturing process along with static and dynamic post-manufacturing tests.
Victaulic has maintained an Engineering Department in Canada for over 50 years responsible for providing support to the Quality Assurance Department and various Manufacturing Divisions to ensure the highest possible product quality and conformance to the stringent requirements of the ISO 9000 Quality System registration. This group also provides direct assistance to Victaulic Field Representatives and customers by providing creative solutions to piping challenges in all areas where Victaulic products are used. In tandem with the global engineering and product development teams, innovative new products are constantly being developed.
Support Services
The benefits of lower total installed cost, reduced downtime and maintenance ease are only part of the Victaulic story. Victaulic goes above and beyond to support its customers from design through construction.
Customer support services such as the Construction Piping Services team provide an integrated set of mechanical coordination drawings including 3D models, isometric, and bill of materials. These drawings enable customers to effectively locate equipment and route mechanical room piping systems to meet scheduling demands and enhance productivity.
In addition to its comprehensive estimating, pre-planning, project-coordination and software-solutions services, Victaulic has over 300 factory-trained piping specialists worldwide to service customer needs in the field.
