BIPV Solar Technology Lands In Toronto
With green initiatives at the forefront of building design, OIRCA Associate Member Sika Sarnafil is currently supplying the first BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic) 85kW solar electric system in Canada. This rooftop system is being installed at the F.J. Horgan Water Treatment Plant in the City of Toronto. The system manufactured by Solar Integrated is the first of its kind to be installed in Canada.
Although numerous installations are installed throughout the United States and Europe, the City of Toronto, after extensive research, selected this solar technology to be installed at the F.J. Horgan Water Treatment Plant. The system was designed by Morrison Hershfield’s Toronto Office and is being installed by OIRCA member, Semple Gooder Roofing Corporation, an approved applicator of Sika Sarnafil and Solar Integrated. The system is expected to be up and running by the beginning of September.
The second system to be installed in Canada will be in Kelowna B.C. later this year. Sika Sarnafil, a Business Unit of Sika Canada Inc., is a Strategic Partner with Solar Integrated and was involved with the City of Toronto during the design stage. The fall issue of Ontario Roofing News will include a more detailed article on the complete roofing system design; it’s application and performance.
