Roxul Unveils $150-Million Milton Plant Expansion
Roxul Inc. officially opened its 700,000 sq. foot production facility in Milton, Ont. – a $150-million investment that will creat up to 100 new jobs and triple its production of environmentally friendly insulation.
“Roxul’s new facility will create good paying ‘green’ jobs, contribute to Ontario’s growth and increase energy efficiency across North America,” said Roxul President Trent Ogilvie. “This state-of-the-art plant also symbolizes the commitment to green growth of our parent Rockwool International and the support of the Ontario government.”
The two-year expansion project was aided by $10-million interest-free loan from the province’s AMIS (Advanced Manufacturing Investment Strategy) program. “We are committed to supporting innovative Ontario businesses that help us live more sustainably, contribute to the new green economy and create jobs for Ontario families,” said Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.
The Milton production facility is among the most advanced of the 24 facilities that Denmark-based Rockwool operates around the world. While production of Roxul’s mineral-based insulation will triple, emissions will be below the provincial limit thanks to the use of innovative emission control technologies. Roxul’s mineral-based insulation is inherently an earth-friendly product, the energy used to manufacture it is recovered after three weeks of installation, but the company has strived for additional green features. The Milton plant will recycle all waste products and deliver zero waste to landfill, reuse water in its production process and recycle heat from manufacturing to heat the factory and warehouses.
The Milton expansion was conducted in cooperation with the Town of Milton, Industry Canada, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Regional Municipality of Halton and the Ministry of the Environment.
Roxul Inc., located in Milton, Ont., and Grand Forks, BC, is part of Rockwool International, the world’s largest producer of stone wool insulation with 24 facilities in 14 countires. Roxul’s products are fire resistant, water repellent, non-corrosive, and resistant to mould, fungi and bacteria growth.
